Heritage Museum and Gardens 2017

The boys and I went on an adventure Thursday to Heritage Gardens.  I haven't been since middle school, so I barely remembered it.  I got a library pass and we were there when the doors opened at 9am.  We were the ONLY ones there for a good 2.5 hours.  The place was just starting to fill up as we were leaving.  So awesome to have the entire place to ourselves!!

The boys were obsessed with the map and the concept of finding themselves and things on it.  So much so that it became a real pain in the ass to keep showing them where we were on it.  Every 2 seconds I had to show them how far we'd walked.  Ugh.

Before we left we enjoyed an ice cream at the cafe.

The boys liked this "Grinch tree".

There are tons of nature trails off the paved paths that you can explore.  This one led down to a beautiful quiet pond.

The Hidden Hollow was the best part.  All sorts of hands-on things for kids to build, play, touch, explore, see, hear, etc.  A nice sensory experience.

We particularly loved the tree house.  Sebastian said he was moving in there.

Adi had something in his shoe...

There was NO ONE at the carousel with us for over 20 minutes.  So we rode it 3 times.  Actually 4 times.  The first was an aborted ride; Sebastian cried so she stopped the ride so he could move to the stationary bench.  The second and third he rode the bench.  The fourth he rode a stationary horse.  Not sure why he was so freaked out--it's not his first rodeo, so to speak.

At first, the boys were fussy and mad when we went to see all the antique cars.  I could not care less about cars, but even I had to admit they were pretty spectacular to look at.  But the boys were *furious* they couldn't touch and ride them.  Finally, we found one there that visitors can get in and drive, and they were happier.

What a lovely spot.  They only thing they need that I didn't see was a splash pad... ;-)
