Recent Milestones

Wow!  All of a sudden, the firsts are just coming like mad!  I am loving it!

Sebastian:

1. Gives fish-face kisses.  When you go "kiss, kiss, kiss" and make kissy faces at him, he responds by giving kisses of his own.  But he sucks in his cheeks and then blows...it's adorable.

2. At daycare, they were trying to teach him to blow kisses.  He does it, but instead of touching his hand to his mouth, he touches his head and then moves his hand/arm outward towards the person.

3. He's taking more and more little steps and standing better and for longer periods of time by himself.  But still not full-blown walking.

4. This morning he grabbed the purple play phone form his toy, picked it up, and put it to his mouth and ear like a real phone.

5. He has a little Sesame Street "CD player."  It plays what their nurse Marcy would have called "circus music"--no words, just tunes.  Well, he "sings" to it by making noise when it plays.

6. He LOVES, loves, loves his Lamaze toy, Olivia the Owl.  The boys have played with her since the beginning, but neither has been as into her as Sebastian is right now.  If he sees her, he has to be holding her, and he cuddles her.

Adrian:

1. Adrian is talking up a storm these days, but still no actual words.  But he can be very expressive in his babbling!

2. Adrian is standing for longer periods of time as well, and is now cruising more and seems much more interested in walking than just a few days ago.

3.  He gives more consistent, accurate high-fives than last week and flashes you a Dracula smile (teeth coming in funny) when he does it.

4. He's eating pretty well and enjoying all sorts of new foods at daycare.  Yesterday he devoured his fish sticks and a week ago they told me they had to "cut him off" from cream of chicken soup after he'd eaten 3 bowls of it!

I love these moments.  This is a fun age.  Except for the teething part.  That's not fun.

Recap of the Past Year

It just hit me.  This past year, October 2011 to December 2012, was probably the craziest (although one of the best) years ever.  And ok, it's slightly more than a year.  Minor detail.  Here's a summary:

10/02/2011 Baby Shower

10/15/11 11:30 pm:  Adrian's water broke
10/15/11-11/25/2011 BEDREST
11/19/11 Carlos has an emergency appendectomy

11/25/11 Boys born; NICU

12/29/11 Sebastian comes home

1/25/12  Adrian comes home

06/01/12 Boys start daycare; Amy back to work
08/17/12 Last day at Harvard
08/27/12 First day at Milton
September Bought a minivan
10/06/12 Move to Bridgewater
10/10/12 List condo in Watertown
Mid-November Accepted offer on Watertown condo
Mid-November Our offer on house in Easton accepted
12/28/12 Close on Condo (fingers crossed!)
01/14/13 Close on house in Easton (fingers crossed!)

So....We basically bought a car, sold a house, bought a house, had twins, 2 surgeries (a minor one for Carlos and major one for me), 2 moves, and a job change all in the course of a little more than a year.  I think if we can handle this year, we can handle anything!  But again, these were all good changes that we are incredibly grateful for.  I couldn't be happier.  Fingers crossed everything goes well with the closings on both the condo and the house in Easton!

School pictures from late September

Even though these were taken a while back, I'm just now publishing them because I used them for our Christmas card--I wanted to send out the cards before I shared the pictures.  (Tia Mimi, I have one for you, but don't know where my address book is with all the packing.  I couldn't remember your address off the top of my head and mom was gone!  I'll give it to you on Christmas!)  I LOVE them.  They were taken at their daycare in Watertown just days before we pulled them out to move down here.  For school photos, I think they came out great.

Mischievous Sebastian and scared Adrian

Could his look be any sweeter?

A week full of firsts

Most importantly, Sebastian took his first steps yesterday, 12/7/12....Both Carlos and I (and Adrian) were there to witness the moment, so that was nice.  It wasn't much, but he teetered for a moment standing on his own and then took 3 or 4 baby steps.  We clapped for him and he was so darn proud of himself!!!  The nicest part of all is that he did it again last night and this morning.  So he's definitely on the right track.

Adrian is getting there...he stands on his own now as well, and he is starting to cruise around the play area more.  His balance is actually pretty good--I think he'll walk soon, too.  He is actually repeating sounds now.  When I say "mama" he says "mama" back.  I'm still not convinced he calls me mama, but he will say it to me when I say it first.  And he says it when he's crawling on me without prompting, but it's still not clear to me whether it's intentional or not.

The boys now give high-fives and they also wave; Sebastian is more interested in waving, and Adrian gives better high-fives.  Yesterday when I went to pick the boys up at the daycare, they saw me through the glass.  Sebastian waved at me--without prompting!  Then he crawled to the door and peeked at me through the glass.  I loved it...

Today the boys had their first haircut with Maria, a lady I have known and who has cut my mom's hair and my hair (although I go to her colleague right now because Maria doesn't usually work weekends--the only time I can cut my hair) since I was in 6th grade (or maybe earlier?).  She agreed to come in and work today just to cut the boys' hair.  So nice of her!

We decided to start with Adrian, since he's the "big brother."  As expected, he was pretty good about it!

Cutting us off the first lock to save...

I love this one...I captured a moment of Carlos trying so hard to keep Adrian entertained!

All done!

Sebastian was good at first, but got fidgety as she was trying to finish up his hair.  All-in-all, they were both pretty good, though!

Sebastian's turn

This is my favorite photo of the day.  Sebastian is such a flirt, and I love the look on Maria's face, too.
Overall, it's been a productive week!!

Happy First Birthday!!

I can't believe it was a year ago that the boys were born.  Time truly flies.  I still remember the events and emotions of the day with great clarity, and I hope I never forget.  It has been a great first year, and I look forward to many more with the boys.

In the morning, the boys opened their presents from their abuelos in Mexico: a walker thingy and a cool dump truck.

In the afternoon, we had a visit from our friends Gloria and Jose.  I was happy to celebrate their birthday with such good friends.  We didn't do a big party because of the fact that it falls so close to Thanksgiving (where we celebrated with family).  The boys don't have friends yet really, and things are crazy with packing and moving.  Next year we'll have a party!!

At night before bed, we dressed the boys up in their Elf on a Shelf outfits.  My mom converted their jalapeño Halloween costumes into the elf outfits.  They were overtired and not very cooperative so we'll have to give it another go later.  But for now, this is what we got!
