Mother's Day Weekend 2014, Part One

This has been an amazing weekend already, and it's only half over!

Yesterday Carlos took the day off to watch the boys because Natalie had something to do.  At the end of the day (3pm) he took the boys to Milton to see me.  They stopped by the office and said hello to my friend and colleague Sandi and saw what my office looked like (mostly they admired the pictures of themselves hanging everywhere) and then we went off to the gym to run them ragged.  (It rained on and off all day and the grass was wet so we didn't want to let them play in the Quad.)  They had a blast seeing "Mama's work" and "Mama's office."

We found two foam balls in the gym.  They had fun shooting baskets and throwing and kicking the ball around, but mostly they were just happy to run free in a place that was new to them.  When I stop to think about it, it really doesn't take much to make them happy.

Just as we were preparing to leave, our athletic director came out with some kids to play basketball, and the boys had a good time watching the "big boys" shoot around.

After the gym, we went to look at a little plastic house that Sandi offered to us for free.  It was her kids' when they were young and now it's kind of tucked away in a corner here at Milton (she lives on campus).  We have to borrow a truck to get it, so we figured we'd see if the boys like it first.  Well, they loved it...

So now we'll have to arrange to pick that up.  Sebastian didn't want to leave.  He kept saying, "No!  I'm playing playground!" (with a really hard "P" at the beginning of "playground."  He does that for emphasis!)

Today, Saturday, we went to Lowe's in the morning (bought a jalapeƱo plant for the garden) and then went to the new playground in Bridgewater to kill time before the dreaded music class.  It was semi-drizzling and the playground was wet because it rained overnight.  So we were the only ones there.  As we were getting out of the van, I heard my name: it was the Ajemians!  They were out for breakfast and driving by so they stopped to check out the playground.  It was so good to see them.

Carlos had as much fun as the boys did.

This playground is HUGE.  Here's a quick tour.

Nice covered area for picnicking for for parents to sit

This area is perfect for the 2-5 year-old crowd.

This is the bigger kid area.

Sebastian mostly wanted me to chase after him today--he was less interested in the structures and more interested in playing games with me.  :-)

You can see the music area to the left of Sebastian.  They can play all sorts of "instruments."

Sebastian kept asking me to chase him and then he'd pretend to be scared when I'd catch him.  Then he'd burst out laughing.

Playing music

Adi never left the sandbox.

The boys got munchkins before music class.  Couldn't resist.

Then, we took a walk around the neighborhood and played in the driveway to kill time before Baby James's birthday party.  The boys were so excited to go to Baby James's house!!

When we got there, the boys were thrilled to see everyone, but especially Kitchen!!!  Baby James, being the birthday boy, was too busy being passed around to let Sebastian get all up in his face like he usually does.  They'll have to get their dose of James another day.  Sebastian did not leave the train table the whole afternoon--and we stayed for over 3 hours!  Adi was happy in the playroom with his old toys, but he also spent some time outside with Carlos and Grumpy.  They were both really good, though, which was awesome because I got to enjoy myself.  That rarely happens these days.

The boys didn't nap today...well, not really anyway. Sebastian could NOT keep his eyes open in the car, but it was after he should be taking a nap.   (If they nap after 3pm, they aren't tired for a 6:30pm bedtime.)  But we let him sleep like 20 minutes anyway because he was so utterly exhausted.  His eyes were rolling back, his head nodding, and his mouth hanging open because he was tired of fighting it.  Poor little guy.  The 20 min nap was just right...he was refreshed enough to play with the water table when we got home (it was 80 degrees today!), and yet he still went to bed at 6:30.  Adi didn't nap at all and was fine.  But he was out as soon as his head hit the pillow (quite literally).

I'm glad they still like the water table so much--that means lots of fun this summer.  We also can't wait to set up the Winnie the Pooh sprinkler from Kitchen.

What a great weekend so far...hope tomorrow is just as good.  We're off to Hull in the morning and my mom's in the afternoon.
